Demographics

Asians comprise the fastest-growing population in California, and the state’s second largest community of color. There are a large number of subgroups within the broader Asian community – including Chinese-Americans, Filipino-Americans, Hmong-Americans, Japanese-Americans, Khmer-Americans, Korean-Americans, Indian-Americans, and Vietnamese-Americans – each with varied and nuanced experiences. In fact, California is home to some of the largest Asian subgroups in the country. Of the Asian community, the majority live in the Southern California and the Bay Area regions. Asian people also make up one of the state’s largest immigrant populations.
